Broadway Makes New York Sing
The problem with the Broadway theater is the fact that there are so many great performances to see and such limited time (for the majority of people) in which to watch them. I do not even believe those that reside in NYC poses sufficient time to take in the artistic treasure trove that is shown within this immense ‘city that never sleeps’. The truth of the matter is that to properly appreciate every one of the theatrical offerings available to you, you would pretty much have to never sleep yourself.

Musicals
It’s important to remember that all the shows aren’t showing all the time. Make sure that the show that you want to see would be showing at the time of your visit ahead of making plans. On to the musicals, which are, as a matter of fact, my favorite types of Broadway show. Chicago the Musical, Forbidden Broadway (this one provides a amusing ’spoof’ of Broadway itself), Jersey Boys, Naked Boys Singing (and yes they are naked), Phantom of the Opera, Rent, though it was recently removed from Broadway, Wicked, and Mama Mia!
Comedies
Broadway is renowned for throwing convention to the wind as well as for letting it’s hair down and having a good old time. The same is accurate for the Broadway theater of today. Comedies and musicals on Broadway are not mutually exclusive so a bit of the mirth mentioned below will have at least a bit of song and dance (it’s likely that there will be a bit of both, however you will definitely laugh). Let the comedies begin! I Love You, Your Perfect, Now Change (Really, that is the name we’re definitely off to a fantastic start on the road to laughter). Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead (In my opinion someone has been looking in my children’s windows at night-this one is actually off Broadway, but I thought it bore mentioning with such a catchy title and all). Spamalot: this one is rising star with favorable reviews from critics as well as a pretty decent rate of attendance so make sure you purchase the tickets ahead of time! The Producers, Having lately been made as a motion picture, and The Little Dog Laughed finish off the comedies. With any luck you have read a title above here which appears to be a decent laugh, I know I’ve seen a few!
Drama
While many individuals picture that song and dance routine which is oftentimes associated with Broadway there is a deep dramatic flare to the offerings as well. Particularly a few of the musicals that carry with them profound messages about music, life and love, among those amazing icons of Broadway are these:-
Rent - a modern remake of La Boheme musical that is probably one of the best Broadway musicals I’ve ever had the chance to see, and I’m a big fan of Phantom, established in contemporary times, though the featured disease is AIDS rather than tuberculosis.
Les Miserables is an additional Broadway drama that in truth demands no introduction, Grey Gardens is perfect for anyone who fears becoming the dreaded cat lady or an old maid, A Chorus Line, Chicago, The Color Purple, Phantom of the Opera (a twisted love story of epic proportions), and finally The Vertical Hour (this is a new one let’s hope it lasts).
Broadway is a great way to really appreciate the things that The Big Apple has to offer its visitors in the way of fun. Though it would hardly be possible to view every single performance that might attract your attention it’s not impossible to make the time to see the one which is most appealing to you and it will be an incredible experience for the whole family.
